How Break-Away Nuts Work
Install the nut using a standard wrench or socket that fits the hexagonal head. As the nut is tightened, the upper hex section is designed to shear away at its predetermined breaking point. The remaining cone-shaped portion cannot be easily gripped with ordinary tools.
Because the head is intended to break away, these nuts are best suited for installations that do not require frequent removal or adjustment.
